how easy is it to shop for plus-size clothes in europe?

November 14, 2008  //  Posted by: admin  //  Category: large size clothing

please no rude questions or comments about my weight, thank you.
I'm going to Europe this week- England, Amsterdam, Germany, France, et al. I was planning on doing a lot of cultural, intellectual tourist stuff, but I also thought I'd try to do a little clothes shopping (I'm really not that shallow. I promise) However, in America I'm a size 14. Sometimes in the regular clothing section, sometimes in the plus size section. I know Europeans tend to be slimmer than us, so is it very hard to find clothes for larger-size women (in her twenties) in Europe?

I have seen loads of plus size shops in the UK and many of the department stores stock plus sizes, and it is just about the same stuff as the lower sizes as far as styles. I don't know that I have seen them much in France and the Netherlands, but I haven't really been looking for them. I have seen them in Germany as well, as that the Germans are the heaviest in Europe. I will warn you, it is very expensive to clothes shop in Europe, especially in the UK for Americans with the exchange rate. When I visit family in the States, I often buy clothes and shoes because it is so much cheaper.

Hard, America is an overweight country, the rest of the world is not ! This is not what you wanted but the truth, I hope you get to have a good time, but know this England is on the pound $ system and it's strong-$1.00 us=.50cent Lb.
Don't forget about the size standards that you'll need to get converted.

Not sure about mainland Europe but in England you would most likely find clothes to fit. However, you will probably be shocked at the prices since it is so expensive! I grew up in England and have always had weight issues and I never had a hard time finding clothes.

Also take into account that many countries outside of America are now dealing with weight issues. Fast food was a novelty when I was growing up in England. Now there's a McD's on every street corner and it's beginning to show in people.

    Good luck and enjoy!
